Support for Staff of Hall That Continued Bingo Games as Woman Died E-mail
Wednesday, 25 January 2012 08:17

A woman who lost her mother whilst playing bingo games has come out in support of the stall at the hall.

Williamina Cornes, 66, collapsed whilst playing at her local hall in Coatbridge, Scotland. As paramedics tried in vain to revive her, the bingo caller continued shouting out the numbers to keep the game running in accordance with Gala Bingo policy. Gala Bingo, which owns halls as well as running a popular site with bingo bonus offers, has a policy that states that the bingo game should continue even if paramedic support is needed as if they stop the players are more likely to crowd around the scene and hinder the paramedic team.

While it’s worth noting that this policy is similar to many bingo clubs, there has been a massive backlash over this action, which has been seen as money-grabbing and heartless. Some have accused Gala of being more concerned about making money from the bingo games than taking care of players. Others have walked out and vowed not to play at their offline or online sites, abandoning their remaining bingo bonus to take a stand against what they feel is a terrible action.

But Linda McKee, the daughter of the victim, has spoken out in support of the staff, saying they were ‘a great help’. The caller, Joe Casey, has also received support from many bingo regulars, but is said to be ‘devastated’ by the event.
